That is because the prices of LCD TVs have dropped considerably since they first hit the market en masse, and now retailers are forced to be even more competitive in order to sell their products in uncertain economic times. A combination of improved technology, resulting in better quality manufactured sets, and the fact that many people have already bought into flat screen technology over the past couple of years means that there are some cracking bargains to be had, whether you decide to buy a LCD TV online or whether you nip down to your local electrical retailer.
Plasma TV prices have also dropped dramatically as many manufacturers have opted to discontinue making them, proving that the LCD screen option was the better bet all along! In a recent North American study it was found that LCD TVs outsold plasmas by over seven to one during 2008, probably hastening the decision to end plasma screen production!
Although plasma pictures were considered to be superior the recent improvements in quality have significantly narrowed that gap. Even Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) TVs with a screen size in excess of 40 inches now boast a better quality picture than earlier models. In addition, plasma TVs consume vastly more electricity to deliver their picture quality, which is this day and age of global green awareness is probably why they are falling by the wayside.
Finding a discount LCD TV is sometimes a bit of a challenge, but there are always bargains to be had.
Of course when you are searching for an LCD TV, it is best not to look solely on price, even if it seems like a bargain. There is a balance to be found between finding an LCD TV with a good sound a picture while at the same time picking it up for a decent price.
